Lance Corporal Joshua M. Bernard KIA in Afghanistan August 09

Lance Corporal Joshua M. Bernard, age 21, of New Portland, Maine died August 14, 2009 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in the position of rifleman.

Bernard was an active member of the youth group at his church - Crossroads Bible Church.  That was the site of his funeral services.  He enjoyed gaming, hiking, snowboarding, shooting, reading, and movies.

Bernard had previously deployed to Iraq with the Marines.  He had joined the Marines in November 2006.  His awards include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
