IMO Sergeant Edmund W. McDonald

 

Sergeant Edmund W. McDonald, age 25, of Casco, Maine died March 29, 2007 in North Kabul, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered during a non-combat related vehicle accident on March 28, 2007.  He was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

McDonald grew up in Casco, Maine and attended Lake Region High School in Naples, Maine.  McDonald played several musical instruments to include the guitar, loved to cook, and acted in plays.  Prior to joining the military he held several jobs to include preschool teacher, construction worker, and high school janitor.    He joined the Army in September 2002, completed his basic and advanced training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in April 2003.   McDonald had been in the military for four years and had two tours of Iraq. This was his first tour of Afghanistan.

McDonald's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist’s Badge, and the Driver’s/Mechanic Badge.

He had been married for three years and leaves behind his wife.
