IMO Sergeant Jason W. Swiger

 

Sergeant Jason W. Swiger, age 24, of South Portland, Maine, died in Baqubah, Iraq, on 25 March 2007, when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle.  He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  Jason was a 2000 graduate of South Portland High School.  He joined the Army in May 2000.  He was serving in his third tour in Iraq.  He was a scout driver and team leader.  Jason enjoyed poetry, drawing and singing.  He had always wanted to join the 82nd Airborne Division as a child and meant to make the Army a career.  He leaves behind his family in Maine and his wife.

SGT Swiger grew up in a home occupied by many foster children in South Portland.  The Jason W. Swiger Memorial Foster Care Scholarship has been established to allow foster youth in Maine, like SGT Swiger, to reach their dreams and full capability. The Jason W.
