Sergeant
Richard K. Parker, age 26, of Phillips, Maine died on June 14, 2007 from
wounds received the day before in Scania, Iraq. He was wounded when
an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat
operations. He was a member of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 152nd Field
Artillery Regiment of the Maine Army National Guard based in Waterville,
Maine. While in Iraq he was serving with Security Force II. He loved to hunt, fish and go four-wheeling and loved the outdoors. Other hobbies included collecting coins, rocks, and fossils. He graduated in 1999 from Mount Abram High School in Salem Township, Maine. While still in High School he joined the Army National Guard. SGT Parker received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously. Other awards that Parker had received included the Army Good Conduct Medal and Iraqi Campaign Medal. Richard Parker was engaged to be married and leaves behind a son, Keagan, born in January 2007 who he has never seen. WAKE: The wake will be held Monday, June 25, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Abram High School on 1513 Salem Road in Salem, Maine. MEMORIAL AND FUNERAL SERVICE: A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Abram High School in Salem. Burial will be with full military honors at the Mile Square Hill Cemetery in Avon. Following the service, there will be a reception held at the Phillip's Grade School on Route 4 in Phillips, Maine organized by the Prescott-Fairbanks American Legion Post 64, SGT Parker's unit, and members of the community.
