Staff Sergeant Eric Ross, 26, of Kenduskeag, Maine, died February 9, 2007 of wounds suffered from an explosion in Baquba, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas. He was one of three soldiers that died of wounds from an explosion during breaching operations in Baquba, Iraq. |

| Ross was a Maine native and
his parents live in East Corinth and Levant, near Bangor. Ross was
born on March 18, 1980, in Kenduskeag, Maine.
He enlisted into the Army on July 30, 2001. He joined the 1st Cavalry Division as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver. He went on to serve as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver, Rifle Team Leader, Bradley Section Sergeant and Bradley Commander’s Gunner. Ross was serving his second Iraq tour as a Rifle Squad Leader. A memorial service was held in Iraq by the fellow soldiers of SSG Ross. The service was for SSG Ross and the other two soldiers that died with him. The memorial ceremony in their honor took place at Salie Gym, Forward Operating Base Warhorse, Feb. 13. As the ceremony came to an end, Soldiers paid their last respects to their fallen comrades by saluting the helmets, weapons and boots of the Soldiers. Besides his parents, Ross is survived by his wife who was expecting a child, a boy, at the time of his death. In addition, he leaves behind two children; Megan, 4, and a son, Trever, 7. Ross’ funeral was held in the gymnasium at Orono High School, where Ross was a graduate. His was buried at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
