IMO PFC Andrew R. Small

 

PFC Andrew R. Small, age 19, a native of Wiscasset, Maine and the 10th Mountain Division, U.S. Army died in Nangalam, Afghanistan on August 11, 2006 when his platoon came in contact with enemy forces during combat operations.

Andrew was a student in the Wiscasset school system throughout his young life, graduating from high school in 2005.  He enjoyed soccer, art, sports, cars, computers, and video racing games.

Not long after graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army in June 2005, completing boot camp and infantryman school at Fort Benning, Georgia in the fall of 2005.  He was attached to the First Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y.  He deployed to Afghanistan in March of 2006.

He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and Bronze Star for meritorious service.
