IMO Sergeant Nicholas A. Robertson

 

SGT Nicholas A. Robertson, 27, of Old Town, Maine, died April 3, 2008 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered April 2 while conducting dismounted combat operations in the Zahn Khan District, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).  He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

Robertson grew up in Holden, Maine and graduated from Brewer High School in 1998.  .He was a graduate of the University of Maine where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with minors in French and Classical Studies.  While at UMaine he was inducted into the school's Phi Beta Kappa Society - an undergraduate honors organization in 2003.   He received the UMaine Department of Philosophy's Virtue Award as its outstanding senior in 2003.  He was then accepted to graduate school at Northwestern University in Illinois but left to join the Army in 2005.

 

Army schools that he attended included Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training as a Cryptologic Linguist, Airborne School, and  Warrior Leaders Course.  Robertson's awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and Parachutist Badge.

Sergeant Nicholas A. Robertson was assigned to Headquarters Service Company as Cryptologic Linguist.  He served as a Special Operations Team-Alpha (SOT-A) assistant team sergeant.  This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.  Robertson enlisted in the Army in May 2005 in Portland, Maine following graduation from the University of Maine.

A burial with full military honors took place at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Brewer, Maine.
