Sergeant Lawrence A. Roukey, age 33, of the 3rd Battalion, 304th Regiment, 98th Division, Army Reserve died April 26, 2004 in Iraq while participating in a patrol with the Iraq Survey Group (ISG). His battalion is based in Lewiston, Maine. SGT Roukey had served three years in the Army after graduation from Deering High School in 1989. He re-enlisted after the September 11 attacks. He was 33 years old and a postal worker in Portland, Maine before being activated in March 2004. Prior employment he had was as a corrections officer in Maine and Vermont. He worked at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston. He leaves behind his wife, a 2-year old son, Nicholas and a step-daughter, Sonya.
